Success favors the prepared, or rather the well connected mind. We are not in the business of promoting new products, but we are in the business of sharing the new and improved with all the people, companies and communities for which we are connected. Sometimes it's a product, sometimes it's a process, sometimes it's a social cause and, well, sometimes it's an idea that introduces a fundamental shift in the way things currently are being done.
We stumbled upon an interesting idea: a mobile phone that is more robust than any of its individual parts or software. A mobile phone that will take global collaboration to become a reality.
Every year millions of mobile phones are thrown away because they are broken or obsolete. In most of these cases it is just one part that needs repairing or upgrading and all the other parts work fine. However, the entire phone will be thrown out because of one reason: mobile phones are not designed for repairs or upgrades. This is creating a big problem with electronic waste on a global scale.
Phonebloks' idea is to build a mobile phone that exists of separate components that can be 'clicked' together. Every component has its own function i.e. Bluetooth, WiFi, battery, display, etc. When one of these components does not work, it can be replaced with a new one. When one of these components needs upgrading, same story; replace that specific component with a new one. Choosing separate components enables you to personlize your mobile phone to your needs.
We love Phonebloks' idea! Based on the trending we see in both the developing and developed world,
we think this idea has merit. We wonder if our friends in the affected
industries are paying attention. We hope so.
An Opportunity to join the ThunderClap: If you love this idea as much as we do, let others know. Phonebloks is inviting you to go to their website and donate your social reach. You need to do this before October 29th.
On October 29th, Phonebloks will blast this ground breaking idea around the world to see if there is: 1) Enough interest in the market, and 2) Find the right partners to make it happen.
Join the conversation at InnovativeBrains to discuss what might be all the ways this will impact the way we use and source our mobile technology. Stay tuned for our next blog post where we look at what some of the naysayers are saying about Phonebloks.
Also, looking around in your "world" what might be all the ways to break things apart?
