The image that often comes to mind when we think of innovation is of a team of mavericks, maybe sitting in bean bag chairs and wearing funky hats, operating without constraints and breaking all the rules. To replicate this type of 'free thinking' people say, "Think outside the box!" This has value but can be limiting. What? "How can thinking outside the box be limiting?" you may be saying to yourself.
Well, it's limiting because it excludes so many people and so many organizational problems and situations that do have boundaries, do have rules that must be protected, etc. The reality is you can think creatively, even within a box. No more excuses that you, your team, or your organization can't be innovative or creative because you are highly regulated, too deeply rooted in lean, it's not in your KPI's, etc. Throw those excuses out the window! Just as urban gardeners grow wonderful gardens in containers, you too can harvest amazing change within the box.
In our latest video, Bob Eckert, CEO of New & Improved, gives some tips on how to 'think inside-the-box' or anywhere you want or need to for that matter. And, hey, if you need a tool to help you to do that - we have one of those for you too and it is a...wait for it...BOX.
Go on, we dare you, be a maverick and think inside the box (bean bag chairs and funky hats optional).
